【摘要】:Thistestmethodpermitsaccurateandnondestructivethicknessdeterminationofboundpavementlayers.Assuch,thistestmethodiswidelyapplicableasapavementsystem-assessmenttechnique.Althoughthistestmethod,undertherightconditions,canbehighlyaccurateasalayer-thicknessindicator,consistentlyreliableinterpretationofthereceivedradarsignaltodeterminelayerthicknessescanbeperformedonlybyanexperienceddataanalyst.Suchexperiencecanbegainedthroughuseofthesystemandthroughtrainingcoursessuppliedbyvariousequipmentmanufacturersorconsultingcompanies.Alternatively,theoperatormaywishtousecomputersoftwaretoautomaticallytrackthelayerboundariesandlayerthickness,whereapplicable..1.1Thistestmethodcoversthenondestructivedeterminationofthicknessofboundpavementlayersusingshort-pulseradar.Boundpavementlayersaredefinedastheupperlayersofapavement,consistingofmaterialssuchasbituminous,concrete,portland-cementconcrete,roller-compactedconcrete,andstabilizedbases.Boundpavementlayersdoesnotincludegranularbaseandsubbasematerials.1.1.1Astheelectromagneticwavegeneratedbyradarpropagatesthroughtheboundpavementlayers,thewaveisattenuated,dispersedandreflectedatlayerinterfaces.Atsomedepth,duetothewaveattenuationanddispersion,thereflectionsatthelayerinterfacescannotbedetectedbytheradar.Thismaximumpenetrationdepthisacomplexfunctionofradarsystemparameterssuchastransmittedpower,receiversensitivity,centerfrequencyandbandwidthoftheradarsystemandsignalprocessing,aswellastheelectromagneticpropertiesofthepavementmaterialsandenvironmentalfactorssuchasmoisturecontent.1.1.2Radarsystemresolutionisdeterminedmainlybythetransmittedpulselengthandbandwidthoftheradar.Atypicalsystemforthisapplicationusuallyhasaresolutionsufficienttodetermineaminimumlayerthicknessof40mm(1.5in.)toanaccuracyof5mm(0.2in.).Improvementsinsystemresolutionmaybepossiblewithadditionalsignalprocessing.1.2Thistestmethodmaynotbesuitableforapplicationtopavementswhichexhibitincreasedconductivityduetotheincreasedattenuationoftheelectromagneticsignal.Examplesofscenarioswhichmaycausethisare:extremelymoistorwet(saturated)pavementsiffreeelectrolytesarepresentandslagaggregatewithhighironcontent.1.3Thevaluesstatedinmm-kilogramunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.SpecifichazardstatementsaregiveninSection.Note1Boundpavementlayersaredefinedastheupperlayersofapavement,consistingofmaterialssuchasbituminous,concrete,portland-cementconcrete,roller-compactedconcrete,andstabilizedbases.Boundpavementlayersdonotincludegranularbaseandsubbasematerials.
